2022 Update
A bike ride has been held every year from 2005 until 2019 with a two year pause because of COVID. We achieved our target to raise $100,000 for each of Giant Steps Sydney and Giant Steps Melbourne to contribute towards over $5 million required after government funding to run the schools and adult programs. Over 18 years, we have raised over $3.7 million including over $250,000 during the two COVID years when no event was held.
Thank you to our riders and their supporters for their wonderful generosity and to our amazing support team who organise a great event and support the riders so well. The number of riders was down this year because some regulars were traveling post COVID. We received substantial donations from absent riders including Lindy Shelmerdine, Col McKeith, Neil Schafer, Will Liley, Bruce Cameron, Jim Sullivan, Mike Hawker and David and Caroline Clarke.
Giant Steps continues to make a huge difference to the lives of its students, young adults and their families.

Further Details
The Giant Steps 3 Day Bike Ride has been an annual event since 2005 to raise money for Giant Steps Sydney and Melbourne, supporting children and adults on the autism spectrum. We are delighted that this event will be resuming after two years when it had to be cancelled because of COVID. Giant Steps was able to continue delivering virtually full services throughout COVID albeit with adaptations to achieve social distancing and other measures to minimise risks. Even without the event, our regular riders donated over $150,000 towards the non event. This supplemented special government funding such as JobKeeper to help cover the costs of running the schools and adult programs.
The 2022 bike ride will again be based at Noosa. As spaces are limited to 40 riders, participation is by invitation only.

Background
Over the past 15 years we have raised over $3.55 million. Our target for 2022 is to raise $200,000 towards the $5 million needed to cover the gap between the $10 million that it will cost to run Giant Steps Sydney and Melbourne and the $5m that is expected to be received from government.
The money raised from the bike rides has enabled Giant Steps to erect three playgrounds, convert a derelict building into a library and continue to improve the services provided to students and their families. It also facilitated the establishment of a post-school program and an extension to the Early Learning Building. The Llewellyn-Jones Medical Clinic was founded by a donor who is affiliated with the bike ride. The 2019 bike ride helped enable the school to enrol additional students in Sydney and Melbourne, build a new playground and adapt to the introduction of NDIS.
